PUMA Suede & Culture

In the 1980s, the PUMA Suede shoe became closely linked to the hip-hop and breakdancing scene in cities such as New York. The New York City Breakers and Rocksteady Crew, two influential hip-hop groups, quickly adopted the PUMA Suede as their go-to shoe, praising its flexible outsole and comfortable Suede upper. The PUMA Suede association with hip-hop was crucial in establishing its reputation as a bona fide street shoe.

As the skateboarding community sought to differentiate itself from its surfing roots, the PUMA Suede became a popular choice for skaters due to its durability, versatility, and comfortable fit. This iconic shoe became a fixture among male skaters throughout the United States.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Suede, PUMA released more than 37 exclusive designs in collaboration with fashion, music, and cultural partners.
